The V Word

Kinda early, but it's on the brain. I bought some Valentines Day decorations for a Vday box I'm sending to D. I kept the extras to decorate my workspace.

In the past couple of days, fellow co-workers have expressed their disdain for Singles Awareness Day. I get it. It sucks not being in the "in crowd". But to be perfectly honest, some of my most favorite Valentine's Day memories have been hanging out with my friends.

They may have been like any other night on the town with friends, but there is some sort of comfort in being around people going through the same emotional situation that is Valentine's Day.

I have only had a Valentine two of the 28 times the official love day has come around. And let me tell you, I could have lived without them.

The first one was my senior year of high school. I was supposed to have a romantic evening with my boyfriend which included some golden french fries from McDonalds and quality time in his mom's mini-van. Well that was a bust. My best friend was having drama with her boyfriend that night so I spent the entire night helping her.

The second one you ask? Well my boyfriend spent 4 hours working on his motorcycle while I sat in his boring apartment watching DVDs since he didn't have any cable. To make things worse, my sister called to tell me she was engaged. I cried. Mainly cause I was happy, but partly cause I wanted to go kick my boyfriend's bike to the floor. That little piece of crap.

The truth of the matter is that it's just another day. And as long as you are in good company (people you love), then count your blessings. True love, whether it's the love of a friend, family member, or significant other, is hard to find. And who doesn't love love? So celebrate all the true loves in your life and don't hate on my decorations! You know who you are!

Love and Lemons,

Lauren
